143 PAMELA WIBLE: “Physician Suicide”

It’s a secret epidemic that’s rocking our country: an estimated 400 U.S. doctors kill themselves every year. The little-noticed, little-discussed trend has enormous implications. “400 physician deaths mean that a million Americans lose their doctors to suicide each year,” says Dr. Pamela Wible, a family medicine doctor in Eugene, Oregon.

Suffering in silence, many doctors are struggling with depression, anxiety, or addiction. “When doctors kill themselves, the ramifications have far-reaching effects. Our profession requires us to put on the white coat on and the fake smile. There’s got to be a better way.” Dr. Wible’s site is www.idealmedicalcare.org.

“Shift happens right where you are,” says LeGrande. Join the conversation at www.getboldtoday.com and share your personal story of triumph with the hashtag #getboldtoday on social media.
